Job Description

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Cath Lab Director and direct supervision of the Echo Lab Supervisor and in accordance with approved policy schedules, performs and calculates 2D/M-Mode and color flow doppler echocardiograms, TEEs, structural heart procedures and assist in other non-invasive areas when necessary. Share emergency call as scheduled. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Accepts other responsibilities as are delegated by the Director or Echo Supervisor to assure optimum patient care.

Performance Expectations:

Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and preceptor phases of your orientation to your job.

  • Demonstrate the technical aptitude to perform special procedure exams by executing various ultrasound concepts to maximize performance. This includes: positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors.
  • Demonstrate the aptitude to modify technical settings to achieve desired imaging results and recognize complications/limitations associated with ultrasound imaging and the ability to proactively identify and address these for optimum outcomes.
  • Demonstrate the aptitude for assisting with all Cath lab and surgical procedures in an ultrasound imaging role and other duties including but not limited to: operation of ultrasound equipment, assisting in procedure preparation, and assisting the Cath lab staff with various patient care needs.
  • Demonstrate technical aptitude for performing 2D echocardiographic images including all required standard views as well as additional views needed to assess cardiac and valvular function.
  • Demonstrate the technical aptitude for performing doppler and color doppler examinations including all standard duplex doppler angles and measurements as well as additional measurements required to assess cardiac structure and function.
  • Demonstrate the ability to directly assist the physicians with performing transesophageal echocardiograms by operating the echo machine to optimize 2d imaging and doppler evaluation.
  • Demonstrate the technical knowledge to clean TEE probes using the proper techniques and sterilization agents after each use.
  • Demonstrate the technical aptitude to maintain proper sterile techniques for procedures and ensures compliance with infection control procedures in the Cath lab and the operating room.
  • Demonstrates the technical aptitude to perform all quality controls on all imaging equipment as required and ensures all equipment is in safe working order prior to use.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures with correct entry of charges at the time service is delivered
  • Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team focused work unit that collaborates with multi-disciplinary members in achieving optimal department results.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills

High school diploma or equivalent required. Meet the educational and applicable experience requirements for registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

Work Experience:

2D/M-Mode and color doppler experience required. Transesophageal and Pediatric experience preferred.

Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below

  • Basic Life Support (Within 30 Days of Employment Required)

  • ARDMS/CCI Registered (Within 180 Days of Employment Required)
