Position Overview

The Project Engineer will play a critical role in the design, development, and successful implementation of energy efficiency and performance contracting projects. This position combines technical engineering analysis with project execution and customer-facing responsibilities to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site audits and evaluate mechanical, electrical, control, and plumbing systems to identify energy conservation and operational improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and quantify energy efficiency measures using industry-standard tools (e.g., Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, or equivalent).
  • Prepare energy savings calculations, baseline profiles, and investment-grade analysis for energy performance contracts and utility incentive programs.
  • Support proposal development by preparing scopes of work, cost estimates, and supporting documentation for preliminary and final project submissions.
  • Collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure successful project design and implementation.
  • Develop and maintain measurement and verification (M&V) plans for completed projects in accordance with IPMVP standards.
  • Coordinate with customers and internal teams to ensure performance, comfort, and budget goals are met or exceeded.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations.
  • Assist with construction support, commissioning, and ongoing performance evaluation of implemented projects.

Qualifications

  • Education: BSME, BSEE, BSCE, or related technical degree.
  • Experience: 2–5+ years of experience in energy engineering, ESCO project development, mechanical/electrical design, or related fields.
  • Preferred Credentials: PE, EIT, CEM, CMVP, or LEED certification; MBA or MS degree a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, building automation, lighting, and other energy efficiency systems.
  • Experience with energy modeling, cost estimating, and M&V methodologies.
  • Familiarity with utility incentive programs and energy project financing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare clear technical reports and present to clients.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and energy analysis software.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally (up to 20%).
  • Must be able to pass CORI/BCI and other background checks as required for public-sector work.
